When I mentored the hundreds of young people over the past 10 years, including staff that I have been blessed to lead, I had no concerns or insecurities about the possibility that they may surpass me; neither was I frantic or controlling over the notion whether it was "their time" or not, for the spotlight. In fact, I urged them to be better than I was at their age & I look forward to seeing them becoming better than I was, when they have attained my present age.
This is the awesome responsibility & duty invested in those of us with influence; to pass on, nurture, teach & to ensure that the next generation do better than us, so that our country & world will be better than they found it. Whoever has power & authority & seeks anything less than this, does not deserve the privilege of public office.
And while it is true that youth comes with much risk & failings, the generation before, should happily prepare the youth, be proud to see them do well, serve alongside, supporting & guiding while gracefully easing from the spotlight, rather than seeking to discredit or cut down with ageism & other weapons of youth destruction. Stand WITH the Youth!!! Not in their way!!
